There are many reasons for hiring temporary staff. Increasingly, it is a strategic decision, although short-term staffing may, of course, also be needed urgently and for a very limited period of time only.
Strategic contract staffing is a cost effective combination of permanent and temporary staff. Most companies are, to some degree, uncertain about what the future holds in store and want flexibility to meet the challenge of continuous development. Companies do not want to have a permanent workforce dimensioned to handle peaks that occur only occasionally e.g. during the launching of a new product. The need for resources is sometimes limited to a specific period, e.g. when a member of staff is on maternity leave, sick leave or other leave of absence, or when an employee leaves the company.
Sometimes, the most suitable way to test a candidate before offering permanent employment is to combine contract staffing with recruitment.
